"Fuller yellow color, with an unfiltered appearance. Exotic aromas of orchard fruits, clove and flowers. Offers a sweet impression with a soft texture and very good richness. Strong flavor of peach is framed by
sound acidity Best on the classically dry, mounting finish, which boasts very good length."

2004 Calera, Mt Harlan |
79 |
After Oxford, Josh Jensen, a native Californian, traveled to France, learning French and turning his love of
wine, especially Burgundies, into a professional interest. He worked two consecutive harvests in Burgundy
in 1970 at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. After a two-year search for limestone-derived soil in California,
Jensen located and purchased a rugged, remote property near Mt Harlan in San Benito County, with a large
limestone deposit. His fanatical commitment to traditional Burgundian methods is proven in this wine
that goes from buttery oak to ripe fruit that maintains a delicate balance. |
2005 Peay Vineyards, Sonoma Coast, Estate |
95 |
Among the roster of elite wineries where she worked before starting Peay Vineyards with Nick and Andy
Peay, winemaker Vanessa Wong cut her teeth as winemaker at Peter Michael Winery. It was there that she
learned to make superior Chardonnay The nose is elegant and ripe with white fig, baked apple and
pear focused by a lime and limestone core. The oak is well integrated without the overt characteristics of
butter, vanilla, raw wood or char common to California Chardonnay. A slight hint of hazelnut, brioche,
grapefruit and kumquat develop in the nose and carry through on the palate as the wine opens. The wine
is well structured with vivacity and mouthwatering acidity. Almonds, lime, and stone fruit linger in your
mouth. The finish is very long. |
2004 El Molino, Rutherford, Napa Valley |
110 |
Bright pale gold with a lime green rim. Lifted aromatics of lime, pineapple and melon, supported by wild
flower, Irish Cream and wet stone, A crisp attack to a viscous broad yet supple mid-palate with silky texture
framed by fresh acids, citrus and mineral flavors fanning across the back palate to a long finish. |

Small producer in California's best area for this exciting grape. Spicy, complex wine exhibiting aromas of
lychee, wild flowers and pear. Preeminent wine for matching with dishes of Asian influences and some
spice. Wonderfully balanced. Pungent, medium-bodied, opulently aromatic. |

2005 Brewer-Clifton, Clos Pepe Vineyard, Santa Rita Hills |
120 |
Born of an obsession with Santa Barbara County terroir, Brewer-Clifton was formed in the early 1990's by Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton. Greg and Steve focus their efforts solely on the production of vineyard designated Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from several carefully selected, extreme vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills appellation. The Clos Pepe has aromas of flowers, black raspberries and smoked pork followed by flavors of holiday spice, strawberries and pomegranates. Full bodied with a dry, firm texture. |
2005 Brewer-Clifton, Ashely's Vineyard, Santa Rita Hills |
205 |
Greg Brewer is also the winemaker at Melville. The Ashley's Pinot Noir has aromas of rose petal, white miso and wild berries followed by flavors of dried mission fig, cranberry, rhubarb and beets. Very pliant texture which is lengthy yet more finesseful than most of our pinots. |

The Beacon Hill Vineyard, first planted in 1988, has emerged in recent years as one of the Northern Willamette Valley's great Pinot Noir vineyards. Tony Soter' highly-informed decisions about clonal selections and rootstocks are truly paying off. The 2003 Beacon Bill Pinot Noir is in a riper, more overtly powerful style than the 2002. With Burgundian notes of dry leaves, underbrush, and game, it features bold black cherries, Oregon blackberries, that ever-present cranberry top-note, cedar oil (a hallmark of Beacon Hill), and a wraith of marzipan. |

Under the supervision of famed winemaker Helen Turley, the 2004 vintage was hand harvested and hand sorted. A breakthrough effort, the 2004 is a combination of 60% Cabernet and 40% Merlot. Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by lovely, evolved aromas of blueberries, black currants, white chocolate, licorice and pain grille. Medium to full-bodied, elegant, finely etched, and impeccably well-balanced, with abundant amounts of sweet fruit. |
